Ange Postecoglou has said that he wants Dejan Kulusevski to score more goals, revealing that the Swede has been working hard on that part of his game in the training ground.

In the absence of James Maddison, Kulusevski has taken up the mantle of being Tottenham’s main creative fulcrum, thriving in the number ten role over recent weeks.

While the Swede has always been a tireless worker and someone capable of producing moments of magic, he has started raking up goals and assists more regularly over the last couple of months.

The 23-year-old made the difference for Tottenham at the City Ground on Friday as he delivered an inch-perfect cross for Richarlison to nod home Tottenham’s opener before scoring the away side’s second with a powerful right-foot drive in the second half.

Gary Neville was in awe of Kulusevski’s performance against Nottingham Forest, remarking that the former Juventus man could become a £100m player if he delivers consistently in the attacking midfielder role (Sky Sports).

Postecoglou wants more Spurs goals from Kulusevski

Postecoglou has admitted that he believes that the versatile attacker can find the back of the net with more regularity.

The Australian told Football.London about Kulusevski after the 2-0 win over Forest: “Yeah, he was great. He’s been great all year to be fair. We’ve played him in a number of positions.

“We started him off in the middle and I thought he was really good and causing them problems. I thought we were looking really strong through that early bit and created a couple of really good opportunities.

Then Brennan goes off and we had to put him wide. We know what he can do out there and we’ve been working hard with him to become more of a goal threat. 

“We feel that’s the one aspect of his game that he still needs to bridge a gap. He’s taken that on board and he’s now getting into positions where he can score goals. He has in the last few games and his general work rate is outstanding but he’s got the quality to back it up.”

It feels like Kulusevski sometimes second-guesses himself in the final third, and takes an extra touch instead of crossing or getting a shot away. The Swede is an excellent technician and his recent goals and assists should give him the belief to get shots away more often.
