Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur assistant Chris Davies has thoroughly enjoyed working with Ange Postecolgou for the last six months, which one of the key reasons why he decided to turn down the chance to become the next Swansea City manager.
It was reported last week that Davies, who joined as Tottenham’s senior assistant coach back in the summer, was one of the names on Swansea’s radar, with Matt Law claiming that the Championship side’s initial approach was turned down by Spurs earlier this month.
Various sources had then indicated that the Welsh club had not given up on the prospect of luring the 38-year-old back to the Swans and were readying a second approach (Lyall Thomas).
However, Spurs were handed a huge boost over the weekend when BBC Sport revealed that Swansea’s approach had failed and Davies had instead decided to remain at Hotspur Way.
Chris Davies has made a big impression at Spurs
Gold has now also confirmed that Davies will remain as part of Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff, explaining that the former Leicester City coach has made a solid impression since arriving at Tottenham.
The journalist added that it would take a ‘special’ offer to convince Davies to abandon the current project at Spurs.
Great news for Ange Postecoglou as Chris Davies has decided to stay at Spurs. Understand the assistant coach has made a big impression behind the scenes and has relished working with the Australian and it would take something special to convince him to leave the Spurs project.

Postecoglou spoke about Davies’ future recently and insisted that the decision remained firmly in his assistant’s hands.
He told the Evening Standard: “I’ve had a brief discussion with Chris and he knows we’ve got a busy week so we’ll focus on that.
“He’s an outstanding individual, he’s done some great work with us and great work in the past. It’s not surprising to me that Swansea or other clubs would look at him.
“I’ve always been relaxed,” he added. “I have said in the past it is part of my role to develop staff and I am really proud of the fact a lot of the guys I’ve worked with, the reason they are not with me as assistants is because they are senior managers in their own right.
“If you are looking for things that will be disruptive, you can use that as a clutch or an excuse for anything. We lost Harry Kane the day before the season started so there is a disruption, we lost half the squad after one game so there is a disruption. There will always be this.
“You can’t work in a vacuum where everything is perfect and for me I have been relaxed in these kind of situations because I have always believed the environment will cover whatever challenges we have if we get it right.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Chris Davies‘ decision to stay is fantastic news as the last thing Tottenham needed was a major disruption at the busiest time of the season, especially given the challenges of navigating through the injury and the player unavailability issues which the club has been experiencing in recent weeks and is set to continue into next month with the likes of Yves Bissouma unavailable, while James Maddison and Micky van de Ven remain sidelined through injury.
