Fabrizio Romano has revealed that former Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo is now the leading contender to replace Steeve Cooper at Nottingham Forest.
Nuno replaced Jose Mourinho as Tottenham head coach in the summer of 2021 but the Portuguese coach lasted only four months in the job, making way for Antonio Conte in November of the year after struggling to get a tune out of the players.
The 49-year-old, who had a successful spell at Wolves prior to his time at the North London club, took over at Saudi Pro League club, Al-Ittihad 18 months ago.
He enjoyed success at the Jeddah-based club, guiding them to the league title last season, but he parted ways with them at the start of November after the side struggled to replicate the same sort of performances this campaign.
Nuno could be set for Premier League return
Romano has now taken to social media platform X to reveal that Nuno could soon be back in the Premier League shortly with the former Tottenham boss said to be in talks with Forest.
The journalist explained that if the Premier League side decide to part ways with Cooper, Nuno is their first choice to take over at the City Ground.
Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Friday evening to condemn Cooper’s side to a run of just one win in 13 games.
Understand Nottingham Forest are in contact with Nuno Espírito Santo as potential new head coach. Talks are ongoing.

Spurs Web Opinion
This might be an unpopular opinion but I believe that Nuno was treated extremely harshly at Spurs. He walked into an extremely difficult environment, with everyone being aware that he was Tottenham’s fifth or sixth-choice pick.
He also had to deal with all the fallout from Harry Kane pushing for a move to Manchester City and the club refusing to sanction it, with the striker subsequently struggling to hit his usual heights for the first few months of the campaign.
Nuno did a commendable job at Wolves and I certainly would not be surprised if he turns Forest into a solid outfit if he does take over at the City Ground.
