With the January transfer window fast approaching, Tottenham Hotspur are believed to have made some progress in their pursuit of Jean-Clair Todibo, with talks advancing and the player himself keen to join the North London club.

The priority for Spurs in the upcoming winter window, it seems, is to bring in a new centre-back. Ange Postecoglou did reinforce that position in the summer, with the signing of Micky van de Ven, but the Australian has found himself short once more due to injuries.

With van de Ven out until the New Year and Eric Dier out of favour, it has been down to Ben Davies to cover in the central defensive area, and the Welshman has done a fine job after putting in solid displays against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest

Postecoglou praised Davies ahead of the trip to the City Ground, but made it clear that he wants the club to sign a new defender as soon as possible (Football.London).

One name on the long list of targets for the Lilywhites is Jean-Clair Todibo, with Spurs recently emerging as potential suitors for the Frenchman (Evening Standard).

Spurs stepping up pursuit of Todibo

Now, the latest update on the situation comes from the Daily Mail, who suggest that Spurs have held fresh discussions over a potential deal for the player.

It is said the North Londoners arranged ‘further talks’ for Todibo recently, with the player valued at around £35m.

While the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United are also in the hunt, it seems the contact between Spurs and Todibo’s representative’s was positive, and Tottenham now ‘know Todibo is keen to join’ them.

You’re not going to find a better centre-defender for as reasonable a price as £35m in January, and if Todibo is indeed keen to join Spurs, then we should make this happen immediately.

Postecoglou has spoken about how he wants deals to be concluded swiftly next month, and it’s essential we get that defensive cover as soon as possible.
