Amidst reports linking Conor Gallagher with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has said that the midfielder’s future is out of his hands.
While Gallagher has been a fixture in Chelsea’s midfield since Pochettino walked through the door in the summer, The Daily Mail reported last week that the Blues had done a U-turn on the player’s future and decided to put him up for sale.
The outlet explained that some at the West London club felt that January would be the best time to cash in on the England international, who had been put on the shop window.
This information was also backed up by talkSPORT, who claimed a few days ago that Chelsea are expected to cash in on the midfielder and use the funds to sign a new striker.
The publication added that the development had altered Tottenham, who were ready to pounce on the 23-year-old when the transfer window opens next month.
Pochettino seemingly wants to keep Conor Gallagher
Pochettino himself has now thrown a huge hint about Gallagher by revealing that the midfielder’s future is not in his hands.
The Argentine admitted that he views the midfielder as an important part of his plans but refused to confirm that the player will remain at Stamford Bridge.
When asked whether Gallagher will sign a new contract, the Chelsea boss said (via Fabrizio Romano): “It’s the club’s decision, not mine. He is in the starting XI in nearly all the games and is one of the captains. For me, he is the type of player that the club needs to have as he knows the identity of the club.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I cannot help but feel that Levy would be laughing at Pochettino’s predicament. Despite being given quite a bit of power at Spurs, the Argentine was complaining that he did not have enough control.
He has subsequently had to deal with even worse situations at Chelsea and PSG, with the 51-year-old seemingly having little input in those clubs’ transfer decisions.
