Tottenham’s pursuit of Lloyd Kelly could potentially be boosted as The Daily Mail have now revealed that Liverpool are having second thoughts about pursuing the Bournemouth star.
Since the start of November, several outlets have suggested that Spurs could reignite their pursuit of Kelly in January after failing to get a deal for the centre-back over the line last summer (GiveMeSport).
Some outlets over recent weeks have reiterated that signing a left-sided centre-back is Ange Postecoglou’s number one priority next month, with the 25-year-old alleged to be one of the names at the top of the Australian’s wishlist (The Standard).
Kelly has six months left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium but it appears Spurs might have to wait until next summer to sign the defender after the Cherries owner Bill Foley stated last week that the player will not be sold in January (talkSPORT).
It had been suggested by some publications over the last month that Spurs have competition to contend with for the English defender, with the likes of Liverpool (Football Insider), and Arsenal (Tuttosport) also eyeing moves for him.
Liverpool could pull out of race for Lloyd Kelly
However, if the Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Liverpool may no longer pursue Kelly in January or next summer.
The outlet states that the Reds are having doubts over whether the Bournemouth star is of the required standard, and they could thus prioritise moves for other centre-backs instead.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do think Tottenham would be seriously tempted to potentially secure Kelly on a free transfer next summer, given the 25-year-old’s versatility, Premier League experience and homegrown status.
