Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon is being lined up as the ‘top target’ for Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window, with the German side looking to secure a six-month loan deal for the left-back.
Despite making a promising start to his Spurs career, Sergio Reguilon has found himself on the peripheries of the Tottenham squad under both Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou.
After a fairly unsuccessful loan spell with Atletico Madrid last season, which was severely interrupted by injuries, Reguilon was on the lookout for a new club this season, with Spurs keen to move the Spaniard on.
In the end, a surprise move to Manchester United came to fruition, with the Red Devils requiring cover at left-back due to injuries ravaging Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Reguilon has become a popular figure at Old Trafford, but whether he stays with Manchester United remains to be seen. According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs will need to negotiate an extension.
Sergio Reguilon is on Dortmund’s transfer list
In the meantime, it has emerged that Borussia Dortmund are keen to step in and take Reguilon off of Tottenham’s hands (Sky Germany as relayed by Fussball Transfers).
Sky Sport Germany journalist Patrick Berger has shared an update on X regarding the situation, tweeting: “Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilón – on loan with ManUnited – is Borussia Dortmund’s top target in winter, as reported exclusively on Friday. Bild confirm our story today.
“Dortmund made an enquiry for a 6-months-loan. There is a January break clause in Reguilon’s contract with Manchester United.”
Spurs Web Opinion
We really need to try and arrange a sale for this guy now. I actually do not mind Reguilon, but we clearly do not consider him to be part of Ange Postecoglou’s long-term plans, and sending him out on loan spells is not benefiting us at all. It’s time to get him sold, get a fee, and move on.
