Paul Merson has seemingly changed his mind about Tottenham Hotspur, with the pundit opinion that he now expects the Lilywhites to be a ‘massive threat’ to finish in the top four.
Merson has already been left with egg on his face for a few of his predictions about Tottenham this season (SportsKeeda).
At the start of the campaign, he predicted that Spurs will struggle to even finish in the top half of the table after losing Harry Kane (Sky Sports). Ahead of the North London derby in October, he opined that Arsenal would wipe the flour with Ange Postecoglou’s men (Sportskeeda).
Undeterred by his wrong predictions, he once again confidently asserted a couple of weeks ago that Manchester City would demolish Tottenham if the away side took the game to the Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium (Sky Sports).
Paul Merson changes his tune on Tottenham
The 55-year-old has now finally changed his mind about Tottenham after they repeatedly proved him wrong, acknowledging that they are now legitimate contenders for Champions League qualification.
Following Spurs’ 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, Merson told Sky Sports News (16/12/23 at 12:10 pm): “I have to say, Tottenham are back, if I am honest. Getting a couple of players here and there. I think they are a massive threat for the top four.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I would have personally preferred Merson to keep downplaying Tottenham’s chances, given his stellar track record of getting all of his predictions wrong. All joking aside, it does seem like pundits and neutrals are now walking up to the fact that Spurs under Postecoglou are the real deal.
