As Tottenham Hotspur desperately look to add a new centre-half to their ranks, it appears that Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno could be an option and would cost around €30m (£25.9m).
After last season’s dismal campaign, in which Spurs conceded 63 Premier League goals, it was hardly surprising that the North London club were keen to sign a new central defender in the summer.
The signing of Micky van de Ven went a long way to fixing those issues, forging a brilliant partnership alongside Cristian Romero. However, the hamstring injury sustained by the Dutchman during the defeat against Chelsea has hampered Ange Postecoglou‘s progress.
Tottenham are now expected to sign another centre-back in the January transfer window as a priority (Telegraph), with a number of names linked to the club ahead of next month, including Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo (Fabrizio Romano).
Could Alessandro Buongiorno be an option for Spurs?
Naturally, players that Spurs were reportedly interested in during the summer are resurfacing as potential targets, too, with Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno back in the mix as per a new report from the Roma Metropolitan Magazine.
The report commends the Italian defender for doing “really well” this season, but highlights that this form has encouraged Premier League clubs to pay attention.
Chelsea, West Ham, and Tottenham are named as potential suitors for the 24-year-old, and it is thought Spurs could “satisfy” the demands of Torino president Urbano Cairo, with a price tag in the region of “over €30m” (£25.9m) in place.
It is thought such a fee would prove a stumbling block for Serie A sides who may have been keen, but would be no problem for Premier League clubs including Tottenham.
Spurs Web Opinion
Buongiorno is a very good player, who still has lots of room to develop. For that price, he could be a sound investment, but I’ve already got my heart set on Jean-Clair Todibo now, who would seemingly only cost around £5-10m more.
