German news outlet Dorstener Zeitung have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to pay a transfer fee of €45m (£38.9m) to land Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.
Todibo has emerged as one of the best young centre-backs in Ligue 1 over the last two years and the 23-year-old has now broken into the French national team, which is no easy feat, given how well stocked Les Blues are at the heart of their defence.
Various reports over the last couple of weeks have indicated that Tottenham are considering a move for the Nice stopper ahead of the opening of next month’s transfer window (Sky Sports).
On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that Spurs had opened talks with the French club as well as the player’s representatives regarding a transfer to N17.
The journalist added that the North London club wish to wrap up a deal swiftly and do not want the negotiations to drag on throughout the course of January, something which Spurs fans have been accustomed to in many previous windows.
Spurs willing to make big offer for Todibo
Dorstener Zeitung have now shed light on Tottenham’s pursuit of Todibo in an article that primarily focuses on how surprised his former employers, Schalke, are that the 23-year-old has now become ‘one of the most sought-after defenders’ in Europe.
The publication claims that Tottenham are willing to offer €45m (£38.9m) for the centre-back, which means that he is currently valued higher than any member of the current Schalke’s squad.
Finally, the report adds that Spurs could face competition from Borussia Dortmund, who are also said to be eyeing up a deal for Todibo next month.
Spurs Web Opinion
I am not sure if £39m is going to be enough to convince Nice to part ways with Todibo, given the 23-year-old’s career trajectory. Spurs are likely to face quite a bit of competition for the Frenchman and I can see the Ligue 1 club potentially pricing him at close to £50m if a bidding war takes place.
