In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their rumoured pursuit of Ben Godfrey, TEAMtalk have revealed that Everton have now begun talks with the centre-back over a new contract to extend his stay at Goodison Park.
Over the last couple of weeks, it has been widely reported that Godfrey, who has fallen out of favour under Sean Dyche, is on Spurs’ wishlist for January (Football.London).
In fact, 90 min even claimed last week that the Lilywhites are ready to push ahead with a move for the centre-back with Everton are willing to cash in on the player.

However, if TEAMtalk’s latest update is to be believed, the Toffees have now started speaking to Godfrey’s entourage over a new deal.
It is explained that the Merseyside club are reluctant to allow the centre-back to enter the final year of his deal and will instead be open to offers for him next month in case they are not able to tie him down to a new deal.
The report says that Spurs are just one of a ‘number of clubs’ who are monitoring the former Norwich City player’s situation.
Finally, the publication adds Everton are expected to ‘do all they can’ to prevent the 25-year-old from leaving the Toffees in next month’s transfer window.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Godfrey has only made two Premier League appearances all season, I do not see why he would sign a new contract at Everton. Multiple clubs would have likely already reached out to those who look after the defender to discuss a potential transfer.
