According to the agent of Radu Dragusin, Tottenham Hotspur have taken ‘information’ regarding the player, but they are not the only club looking to sign the centre-half right now.

It is well-documented that Tottenham are desperate to add a new centre-back to their ranks when the January transfer window opens. This desire has been particularly strong since the injury to Micky van de Ven exposed Spurs’ frailties at the back.

A report from the Telegraph earlier this week claimed filling that position would be the top priority for Spurs and Ange Postecoglou in the winter window, and the name of Radu Dragusin was also mentioned.

Just hours after that report, however, it was claimed by Genoa sporting director, Marco Ottolini, that Dragusin would put pen to paper on a new contract with the Italian side (Fabrizio Romano).

Since then, a report from CalcioMercato reiterated that Tottenham were still in the race to sign Dragusin, and that the Lilywhites were actually in ‘pole position’ to strike a deal.

Spurs will have competition to sign Dragusin

Now, the player’s agent, Florin Manea, has been speaking to Fanatik about the matter, revealing the extent of Tottenham’s pursuit so far, and how much competition they may face to sign Dragusin.

He said: “I spoke to Tottenham a few days before the Juventus match, they took information about Radu, about his character, but it stopped there. They will let us know if they want to continue or not. And there are several clubs calling, not only Tottenham.

“Ottolini also said there are many clubs that call and are interested in him, and it’s normal because he plays very well.”

I am not super keen on this situation, where the player’s agent is doing so much talking and so publicly to facilitate a move away from Genoa.

It all feels a little bit too much like we are being led down a road we’re not sure we want to go down, and we should stick to our guns and sign whatever player we want regardless of the noise from representatives.
