Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Cristian Romero was dealing with some tightness in his hamstring, which is why he was removed from the Everton match at half-time.
It was a topsy-turvy affair for Tottenham in North London this evening, as they turned on the style for 20 minutes to race into a 2-0 lead against the Toffees, but looked extremely sloppy either side of that period.
Cristian Romero looked uncomfortable after being on the receiving end of a seemingly innocuous challenge in the early minutes of the match, and looked a little unlike his normal self from that moment onward.
Cristian Romero struggled with a tight hamstring
Spurs fans were disappointed to see that the Argentine did not emerge from the tunnel for the second 45, and was instead replaced by Eric Dier.
Fortunately, the former England international played his part in protecting the Tottenham lead, just about hanging on to all three points despite some nervy moments in the dying minutes.
Asked about the Romero substitution, Postecoglou said (Football London): “He felt tightness in his hamstring just before half-time so we had to take him off.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
After what happened to Micky Van de Ven, you can see why they played it safe this time. Hopefully, some rest over the next few days will see Romero make his return against Brighton.
