Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Tottenham no longer sign any players without their manager’s green light, with the club now having stopped making any acquisitions based purely on future potential.
Gold explains in the previous regime, Fabio Paratici would often complete deals for players even though Antonio Conte did not approve, with the journalist pointing to the fact that the former Spurs head coach did not want either Djed Spence or Arnaut Danjuma.
However, that has now allegedly changed as no new signings will arrive through the door unless Postecoglou is convinced that the player would fit into his system and benefit the squad.
Postecoglou gets the final say on Tottenham transfers
Gold states that the Australian coach would rather not make any signing at all than sign a player just because he is available at a bargain or has potential.
The journalist says that Postecoglou wants players with a ‘very specific mentality’ and ones who have the ability to work within his unique system.
He adds that this made things clearer for Spurs and is part of the reason why the summer acquisitions were successful, with all players being bought for their fit to the system.

It was clear that Paratici as managing director enjoyed much more power than a typical director of football, and one cannot say that it did not work as, on the whole, the Italian’s recruitment decisions were excellent.
However, with Scott Munn now overseeing the big decisions, it is clear that Johan Lange’s role is a lot more limited than Paratici’s was, with the Dane expected to provide a list of players for Postecoglou, with the latter making the final decision.
