Ange Postecoglou will have another attacking option within his ranks when January 1st comes around, as Dane Scarlett has returned to North London after a disappointing loan spell with Ipswich Town. Now, Postecoglou has outlined the plan for the youngster.

After emerging as one of the brightest talents in Tottenham’s youth squad over the last couple of seasons, there were high hopes for Dane Scarlett when he joined Ipswich Town for his first spell away from Spurs.

The first half of the season has not worked out for Scarlett, however, who has made just 12 substitute appearances for the Tractor Boys, totalling only 190 minutes of action (Transfermarkt).

With game time limited for Ipswich, it was revealed by Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna that conversations had taken place with a view to terminating the loan deal and allowing Scarlett to return to Tottenham (BBC Radio Suffolk via East Anglian Daily Times).

What is Postecoglou’s plan for Dane Scarlett now?

That return has come to fruition already, with Scarlett confirmed to have joined up with Spurs already for training ahead of being officially available for selection on January 1 (BBC).

Speaking to the press today (via Football.London), Ange Postecoglou was asked what he intends to do with Scarlett now he is back in North London.

He said: “Good to get Dane back and obviously the loan didn’t work out for him at Ipswich, which is disappointing for him and disappointing for us because the reason we sent him out on loan was to get some game-time, rhythm and develop. It hasn’t worked out that way so made sense to bring him back.

“He is back training with us and becomes available from January 1st again. Then it is up to him. He will stay with us until the rest of the season and we’ll see how he trains and what opportunities may or may not come along, so we’ll address those situations then.”

Hopefully this all works out for the best for Scarlett. He will get some chances to play given Son’s departure for the Asia Cup, and most importantly, he will be training with a Premier League outfit and learning to play the way Postecoglou wants him to.
