Journalist Dean Jones has said that Tottenham Hotspur have complied a longer list of targets for the centre-back role in January than they usually do.

It is quite clear that Spurs are prioritising signing a central defender next month, with Ange Postecoglou himself admitting over recent weeks that it is an area where the club need reinforcements (Sky Sports).

Over the last week, plenty of outlets have reported that Tottenham have stepped up their pursuit of Nice’s Jean-Clari Todibo (Fabrizio Romano – YouTube).

The club are also said to be keeping tabs on Genoa’s Radu Dragusin, Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Brentford’s Lloyd Kelly (The Athletic).

Meanwhile, speculation linking Tottenham with Everton starlet Jarrad Branthwaite shows no signs of dissipating although the Toffees are thought to be keen on hanging on to the 21-year-old (INews).

Some reports from Portugal have also suggested recently that Postecoglou’s men have ‘intensified their observations’ of Benfica star Morato and are ‘prioritising’ a move for the Brazilian (O Jogo via Sport Witness).

A long list of targets for Spurs at centre-back

Jones believes that Johan Lange and the Spurs hierarchy have indeed settled on a long list of centre-back targets, with the North London club said to be keeping their options open ahead of January.

When asked about the Morato rumours, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “It’s interesting because the people I speak to around Tottenham are usually pretty good about nailing names to the list of players, the list of interest, and you expect there to be three or four names that are just going to be there.

“Recently, I haven’t really had that same gauge from people. They know that Tottenham are prioritising a centre-back, but it feels like the net might have been cast a bit wider than it usually would be. So maybe that’s why I’m wondering if the Morato one makes a bit more sense.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on how the reportage over Tottenham’s centre-back pursuit has evolved over the last couple of weeks, I feel that the club have now trimmed their list and have settled on a few top centre-back targets.

It appears that Todibo is the club’s top target while Dragusin has been identified as the backup option.
