Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed in his latest column on Football Insider that Tottenham Hotspur could be priced out of a move for Jean-Clair Todibo in January.
Since Fabrizio Romano first broke last week (YouTube) that Tottenham had started a dialogue with Nice and Todibo over a January transfer, we have had several updates on the matter.
Some outlets have suggested that the asking price is not an issue for Spurs but the Lilywhites will swiftly move on if they feel that either Nice or the player is making the negotiations difficult (TEAMtalk).
However, over the past few days, the likes of The Athletic’s David Ornstein and Football.London’s Alasdair Gold have suggested that a deal for the 23-year-old would not be easy, with the latter suggesting that the Ligue 1 club could put off the defender’s sale until next summer.

Spurs could be priced out of Todibo move
O’Rourke has now also suggested that Tottenham may face some stumbling blocks in their efforts to bring Todibo to North London.
He says that Nice are reluctant to lose any of their best players mid-season, particularly since they are keeping pace with Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
The journalist reveals that he has heard that the French club could price Todbio out of a January move for Spurs.

The fact that Tottenham have made their approach so quickly means that the Lilywhites are aware that a deal for Todibo would be difficult. Much like the David Raya deal last summer, I expect Spurs to quickly move on to other targets if they find that Nice are making the negotiation difficult.
