The Sun have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now looking to wrap up a sensational £25m move for Belgian starlet Arthur Vermeeren after overtaking several of Europe’s biggest clubs in the race for the youngster.

Vermeeren is seen by many as the next potential superstar to come out of Belgium, with the midfielder already having plenty of senior experience under his belt despite being just 18 years of age.

The central midfielder has caught the eye with his impressive performance in the Champions League this season and has already won two senior international caps for the Red Devils.

Several outlets over the last few weeks have reported that Spurs are one of several clubs across Europe to send scouts to watch the teenager in action this season (90 min).

Tottenham now front-runners for Arthur Vermeeren

The Sun have now claimed that while Vermeeren continues to be on the radars of Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, Spurs have now moved to the front of the queue for the youngster’s signature.

The outlet says that Ange Postecoglou’s men are now aiming to pull off a £25m swoop for the midfielder when the transfer window opens in less than a week.

Over the last couple of years, Spurs have had plenty of success with signing young, up-and-coming players in the form of Destiny Udogie, Pape Sarr, and, unsurprisingly, the Lilywhites seemingly want to continue with the same strategy.

Vermeeren looks on the verge of exploding in the biggest stage and his value is going to rise significantly by next summer if he continues in the same vein and impresses in the Euros. So, one can understand why Tottenham would be keen to wrap up a deal for the 18-year-old in January.
