Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Nice might hang on to Jean-Clair Todibo until next summer as they foresee a potential bidding war for the centre-back at the end of the season.
It has been widely reported over the last week that Spurs have begun talks with Todibo and Nice over a January transfer, with the North London club intending to agree a deal for the centre-back quickly (Fabrizio Romano – YouTube).
The Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick suggested last week that the Ligue 1 club are willing to sell if their asking price, which is thought to be over £35m, is met and added that the Lilywhites are currently leading Man Utd in the race for the Frenchman.
However, various outlets have suggested over the last few days that Spurs will quickly turn their attention to other alternatives if they do not get the green light from Nice as the North Londoners want to get a centre-back through the door early in the window (TEAMtalk).

Nice might hold out on Jean-Clair Todibo deal
Gold has now become the latest journalist to report on Tottenham’s interest in Todibo but he suggests that a move might not be straightforward since the player is one of the most highly sought-after defenders in the continent.
He suggests that Nice might thus decide that it is in their best interest to hold on to the player until next summer so that he can be the subject of a massive bidding war.

The fact that Spurs have started talks over a deal for Todibo so early is good news as the Premier League side would be able to move on to the likes of Radu Dragusin fairly swiftly if they get the sense that Nice are dragging their feet.
