While discussing the future of Chelsea’s Malang Sarr, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has revealed that he has heard that rumoured Spurs target Conor Gallagher will leave Stamford Bridge in January.
The speculation over Gallagher’s future does seem a little bewildering, given that the midfielder has started all but one Premier League game for Mauricio Pochettino’s men this season (Transfermarkt) and has even worn the armband in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chillwell.
However, various outlets have confirmed that the Blues are willing to cash in on the midfielder and use the funds to sign a striker (Daily Mail), with Spurs allegedly ready to pounce on the 23-year-old following their failed summer move for the player (talkSPORT).
Pochettino himself threw a big hint about the England international last week by implying that the midfielder’s future is out of his hands (The Independent).
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano also confirmed Spurs’ interest in Gallagher a couple of days ago, stating that it was Ange Postecoglou himself who was driving the North London club’s pursuit of the player (Daily Briefing).
What Robinson has heard about Conor Gallagher
Robinson has now seemingly provided some inside info on Gallagher, stating that he has heard that the midfielder is on his way out of his boyhood club.
When asked about the speculation over Malang Sarr’s future, the former Spurs number one told Football Insider: “If you look at the loan moves he’s had at the lack of first-team opportunities, it’s time for him to go,”
“Yes, he came with big expectations, but with the new manager there now trying to create a new style, it just seems he’s a victim of the amount of personnel in the squad.
“If you’re not getting a look in before all this happened, and now there are all these players and you’re still not playing, then it’s probably time for him to move on and Chelsea will look to sell.
“I’ve heard about Conor Gallagher potentially going and moving on, who’s played most of the games this season. So if they’re potentially looking to move players like that on, then the writing’s obviously on the wall for him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is unclear if Robinson is relaying some inside information that he has heard on Gallagher or if he is simply mentioning what he read in the press.
Either way, it seems quite clear that Chelsea are prepared to sell the 23-year-old if their asking price is met and I do not think Tottenham will want to miss out on the opportunity to sign the midfielder.
