Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes that Tottenham Hotspur will be one of the busiest clubs in the January window, asserting that the club will be keen on backing Ange Postecoglou.

There is no doubt that Spurs are in desperate need of a few additions, with the squad being ravaged by injuries over the last couple of months.

Postecoglou himself has been honest about the fact that the club need to bring a new centre-back through the door swiftly if they can, particularly after Cristian Romero’s injury (Football.London).

According to various reports over the last few weeks, the Lilywhites are also thought to be keen on adding a central midfielder and a versatile attacker to their squad next month (The Athletic).

However, some sources have continued to suggest that the North London club are not expected to splash too much cash in January and are unlikely to pay big fees for any new recruits (Ben Jacobs).

Postecoglou will be backed by Tottenham

Sheth believes that Daniel Levy and co will hand the Tottenham head coach the resources he needs to stay in touch with the top sides in the division, particularly given the players they will be missing in January.

When asked about Tottenham’s January plans, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “They, potentially, look like they could be the busiest, and I think the board will want to back Ange Postecoglou as well.

“He has had horrific luck with injuries, particularly in that one game when Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both got injured against Chelsea. They are two players out with long-term injuries, but Rodrigo Bentancur is on the sidelines with a long-term injury as well.

“Come January, the likes of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will be missing on Africa Cup of Nations duty, and Heung-min Son will be missing due to the Asian Cup.

“They’ve got so many players who will be missing temporarily. That’s not necessarily a reason to go into the market because these players are going to come back, of course, but they may want to bulk up that squad.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think the messages Spurs are sending out to agents and journalists about not having much money to spend could be a smoke screen. I do believe the Lilywhites would be prepared to spend big if the right opportunities arise, such as the Conor Gallagher one.

Having said that, doing business in January can often be tricky and it remains to be seen if the players Tottenham want would be gettable mid-season.
