Jamie O’Hara has admitted that Brennan Johnson is yet to really win him over, arguing that the 22-year-old is not decisive enough in front of goal.

Many of Tottenham’s summer recruits have been an instant success, with the likes of James Maddison, Micky Van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario all being in the argument to make the Team of the Season (until their injuries anyway).

The same can be said of Destiny Udogie, with the left-back, who spent last season back on loan at Udinese, looking completely at home at Spurs.

However, the same cannot be said of Johnson, who was the most expensive of all of Tottenham’s summer recruits, arriving from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5m deal late in the window.

Will Brennan Johnson come good at Tottenham?

The Wales international has certainly produced enough sparkling moments to demonstrate why Tottenham paid the aforementioned fee for him, but he is yet to really deliver the sort of statement performance that would signal that he has arrived at N17.

O’Hara acknowledged that Johnson will get better over the coming months but he pointed to his lack of goal threat as a concern.

The pundit told talkSPORT (broadcast on 28/12 from 6:00): “Brennan Johnson I like but he’s a bit weak in front of goal, that’s the problem with him. I like him and what he does, he has pace and causes problems for other teams but he’s a bit weak in front of goal.

“I think he will get better but if you can have someone who can come off the bench if, say Son, Richarlison or Kulusevski are not doing it, you have someone you can go to off the bench and come on and really produce that’s what we need.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Johnson just needs a couple of goals and assists to grow in confidence and to settle his nerves. Once the winger feels at ease with his new surroundings, he could be quite a dangerous player.

The Wales international still has age on his aside. Spurs fans need to be patient with him as it is not easy for young players to cope with the pressure of a huge price tag.
