Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham are optimistic that Pape Sarr’s injury is not serious and that the player is expected to travel to the African Cup of Nations.
Sarr is having a significant breakthrough season at Spurs, having become one of Ange Postecoglou’s most important players, with the midfielder reportedly expected to be handed a new contract by the North London club to reflect his importance to the side (The Athletic).
The 21-year-old would have been hoping to translate his performances to the international stage and was expected to play a key part in Senagal’s defence of their AFCON title in the Ivory Coast.
However, on Sunday, the Tottenham man, who opened the scoring for the home side on nine minutes, felt his hamstring and had to be withdrawn on 31 minutes.
Sarr was inconsolable as he came off the pitch, perhaps over fears that the injury would see him miss out on the trademark tournament kicking off in just two weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion
Sarr would have seen this tournament as an opportunity to make his mark as one of Africa’s biggest talents and to announce himself on the biggest stage as one of Senegal’s best players.
One can understand why the 21-year-old was distraught about the injury as it will be a blow to him even if it means he would just miss the first couple of matches in the tournament.
