Ange Postecoglou says that Hugo Lloris has left a huge mark in the history of Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that he could see from the Frenchman’s conduct over the last few months just why he is so well respected at the club.
Lloris’ 11-and-a-half year spell at Tottenham has now come to an end, with news emerging a couple of days ago that the goalkeeper had agreed a deal with Major League side Los Angeles FC.
While the Frenchman shared an emotional farewell message on the Spurs Twitter account a few days ago, he got an opportunity to say goodbye in person to the supporters at half-time of the clash between Tottenham and Bournemouth.
Postecoglou praises Hugo Lloris’ impact at Spurs
Lloris might not have played a single game under Postecoglou but the Australian admitted that the former Tottenham captain has been an absolute gentleman in the six months that they have worked together, and hailed him for the legacy he leaves at N17.
When asked about Lloris’ service to Spurs, the 58-year-old said (via Football.London): “He will definitely go down as a legend at this club, not just because of his appearances, but when you captain a big club like this for so long…
“I said before I don’t think my opinion of him is paramount here because my services are fairly minuscule compared to his but in the time I’ve worked with him he’s been an absolute professional and an absolute gentleman. I can see why he was highly regarded.
“He was great to have in the group, great for Vic to share a dressing room with a World Cup winner and it is a credit to him for the way he has conducted himself.
“I caught up with him a couple of days ago and wished him all the best. I know he will love the adventure of the MLS and doing something different in your career adds something to it. He goes off with our best wishes and an undeniable impact on this football club.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Hugo was undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world in his prime, what will always stand out about him is his humility, professionalism and courteous behaviour.
Those are the exact reasons why he was the captain of Spurs and France for so long and the 36-year-old has left a huge mark at the highest level of the game.
