Ange Postecoglou has admitted that having Rodrigo Bentancur back fit is a huge boost to Tottenham and that the midfielder getting through the clash against Bournemouth unscathed was one of the most pleasing things about Sunday.
Bentancur has been through quite a difficult 10 months since first suffering an ACL injury against Leicester City in February of last year.
The midfielder had to work extremely hard to return to action but in his first game back against Aston Villa last month, he was on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Matty Cash, which meant that he was sidelined once again.
Postecoglou pleased with Bentancur’s early return
Spurs fans were caught by surprise when they saw Bentancur’s name on the teamsheet against the Cherries and as one would expect from the 26-year-old, he offered the Lilywhites a lot of control in the middle of the park.
The midfielder played almost an hour before making way for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Postecoglou admitted that he was delighted with the Uruguayan’s showing.
When asked about his decision to start Bentancur, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “He trained all week with us and speaking to him yesterday, he felt really good about how he was feeling. We kind of knew there would be a time limit to how much we could get out of him.
“It was great to see him out there again and he gives the whole group a lift. Not just because he is a fantastic player but this group has seen what he’s gone through in recent times and within that context, he’s never let it get him down. He is a warrior.
“The frustrating thing for all the guys missing out at the moment is they want to help and he wanted to help. I thought it was great today. Apart from the win, that was probably the most pleasing thing that he got through 60 minutes and he can help us from here on.”

Bentancur’s return could not have been more timely, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr (if he is passed it) set to miss a few weeks of action due to the African Cup of Nations.
The midfielder is a master technician and we certainly look a lot more comfortable in progressing the ball with him in the side, given how adept the 26-year-old is in receiving the ball in tight areas.
