After much speculation, Pape Matar Sarr has become the latest Tottenham Hotspur star to sign a new long-term contract with the club, following in the footsteps of Destiny Udogie.
Pape Sarr has been one of many highlights during the Ange Postecoglou regime, with the young midfielder becoming a first-team regular under the new manager and forming a strong partnership with Yves Bissouma in the middle of the park.
While Sarr was a peripheral figure during Antonio Conte’s time at Spurs, the Senegal star has made 19 appearances this season, and has registered two goals and two assists along the way (Transfermarkt).
His latest came in the recent win over Bournemouth, but Sarr was forced off the field soon after. Spurs fans will have to wait a while to see the 21-year-old in action again, as he heads off to represent Senegal at the African Cup of Nations throughout January.
Pape Matar Sarr signs new Spurs deal
However, there is good news to tide us over until Sarr returns. The Athletic have already reported that plans were being put in place to tie Sarr to a new long-term deal, and now, the club has officially confirmed that an agreement has been made. Sarr’s new contract runs until 2030.
Sarr’s previous deal ran until the summer of 2026, but he has now put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him extend his stay in North London until…
This new deal for Sarr follows the announcement that Destiny Udogie had been rewarded with a new contract keeping him at the club until 2030.
Spurs Web Opinion
This is fantastic news and is exactly the kind of commitment to developing young players that we want to see from the club more often. Sarr has been outstanding this season and is now integral to the success of this team moving forward. We can’t wait for Sarr to return from AFCON.
