Premier League clubs will find out where they stand when it comes to Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in the next two weeks, but a report claims Tottenham Hotspur should avoid any issues thanks to the sale of Harry Kane.
The January transfer window is now open, meaning Premier League clubs will be looking to reinforce their squads in an attempt to alter the course of the title race and the relegation battle.
Tottenham are known to be in the market for a new centre-back as a priority, with Radu Dragusin looking like the top target for that position (Telegraph).
The Romanian centre-half is seemingly close to joining the North London club, with Fabrizio Romano assuring the confirmation is coming ‘very soon’ and that personal terms have already been agreed with the player.
Are Spurs at risk of breaching FFP rules?
However, clubs have to consider FFP regulations and how any transfer activity can affect them further down the line. The situation at Everton, which has seen the club docked ten points already this season, has been a stark reminder if anyone needed it.
Now, a report in The Times has shed some light on various clubs and where they are likely to stand, with a suggestion that Tottenham are wary of incurring any punishments.
Nevertheless, the report states the sale of Harry Kane last summer will offer a substantial buffer for Spurs and should allow them to pursue the signing of Dragusin without any real concerns.
Any club found to be in breach of FFP, at least the more straightforward cases, can expect to be given a verdict by April, meaning potential penalties and points deductions this season.
Spurs Web Opinion
You would think Spurs are not really at risk of breaching FFP, given the excellent revenue stream at the club and the amount of money brought in from Kane. I know we spent a fair amount in the summer, but it won’t be enough to set any alarm bells ringing.
