Football Transfers have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to walk away from a deal for Conor Gallagher after Chelsea put a £60m price tag on the midfielder.
Around a week ago, some sources were suggesting that Spurs had already begun talks with Chelsea over a deal for Gallagher and that a bid of around £40m would be enough to clinch the deal (Gianluca Di Marzio).
However, over the past few days, some journalists have played down talks of an imminent Tottenham move for the England international.
This includes Fabrizio Romano, who revealed on his YouTube channel a couple of days ago that as things stand, the two London clubs have not held any negotiations over the midfielder.
The journalist added that it would take an ‘important offer’ for the Blues to consider selling their academy graduate this month.
Chelsea demand a big fee for Conor Gallagher
Football Transfers have now reported something similar, claiming that the West London club are reluctant to let Gallagher leave since he has been one of their best performers this season.
The report states that Chelsea would only consider selling the England international if they receive an offer above £60m.
The publication adds that Spurs simply cannot afford to spend that kind of fee on Gallagher due to their FFP constraints, which is why they are ‘very likely’ to put off their pursuit of the midfielder until next summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Over the past few days, Tottenham have evidently been focused on getting a deal for Radu Dragusin over the line. Once that deal is finalised, I fully expect Spurs to test the waters with an offer or two for Gallagher.
However, if Chelsea hold out for around £60m, the Lilywhites will probably turn their attention to alternatives such as Morgan Gibbs-White or Arthur Vermeeren.
