The Mirror’s Darren Lewis has expressed his disagreements with recent reports playing down Tottenham’s chances of landing Conor Gallagher, insisting that the move is still very much alive.
With a little over a week left in the transfer window, Tottenham have not made any progress in their efforts to land Gallagher, with Football.London even reported on Monday that the Lilywhites have not even started talks with their London rivals over a potential deal for the 23-year-old.
The Sun suggested last week that the England international looks quite unlikely to leave Stamford Bridge this month as he remains determined to stay at his boyhood club and fight for his place.
The outlet stated that Tottenham might have no choice but to return for the midfielder next summer if he does not pen a new deal with Chelsea before then.
Deal on still the cards for Gallagher to Tottenham
However, Lewis believes that Gallagher’s potential sale before the February 1 deadline cannot be ruled out as of yet, given Chelsea’s issues in complying with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The journalist said on the Last Word on Spurs podcast: “My concern is that he will be sacrificed. He’s a terrific player. I’m not sold on the idea that it would be impossible for him to come to Spurs and here’s why.
“I didn’t think Chelsea would sell Mason Mount to a rival, and they sold him to Man Utd for £60m. He was a poster boy for the academy, I just think as far as Gallagher is concerned there is that problem with PSR with Chelsea.
“I think he would be an excellent fit for Spurs, and working for a manager like Postecoglou who puts his arm around a player, I think Gallagher could really settle down. This is a Spurs podcast so we won’t dwell too much on Chelsea, but I think there is a possibility that Gallagher could come, yes.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think anyone has any idea about the Gallagher situation at the moment. However, the fact that Tottenham are yet to make a concrete move for the midfielder means one of two things.
Either they do not think he is a realistic target and have moved on to other targets or they believe that Chelsea would have to sell late in the window and are thus waiting for the right time to pounce.
