David Ornstein believes that the likes of Tottenham may rue the fact that they missed out on Antonin Nusa, revealing that every expert he spoke to is convinced that the winger is going all the way to the top.
Up until last weekend, it was widely reported that Spurs were on the verge of signing Nusa, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young attackers in European football over the last 18 months.
Various outlets had reported last week that Spurs were closing in on a deal to sign the 18-year-old from Club Brugge for €30m (£25.7m) in a deal that would see the youngster being loaned back to the Belgian side until the end of the season (The Athletic).
Brentford then appeared to come out of nowhere and swoop for the Norwegian starlet, with various sources reporting last weekend that the player had chosen to join the Bees since they offered him guarantees of regular game-time (Football.London).
However, there was another twist in the final few days of the window, with the teenager reportedly failing a medical ahead of his switch to the West London club due to back and knee problems (Ben Jacobs).
Race could heat up next summer for Antonio Nusa
As a result, Nusa remained at Club Brugge and Ornstein believes that sides could knock on the door again next summer for the youngster’s services.
He explained that those who work in the industry have no doubts that Nusa is going to evolve into a superstar over the next few years.
The journalist said on The Athletic’s social media: “That’s an interesting one from the other day. Nusa is a talent who anyone who you speak to in football thinks is going to the very top, it was quite remarkable, and fair play to Brentford for getting the agreement.
“Everything seemed set, and that was beating the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Liverpool, Newcastle and loads more, some complications arose, but all we know is that deal was pretty much off. The most likely thing is that it’s going to be re-addressed by clubs going into the summer.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I wonder if the fact that Nusa failed a medical at Brentford would put off Spurs and other clubs from reigniting their interest in the winger. Given how big a capture the winger was for the Bees, they would not have hated the transfer unless they had spotted a significant issue.
