Tottenham Hotspur have thrown their name into the hat when it comes to the pursuit of Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez, but they will face competition from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
Given the form of Destiny Udogie this season, the idea of Spurs trying to sign a new left-back may seem like a waste of resources. However, with Ryan Sessegnon‘s future in doubt amid further injury issues, and Ben Davies heading into the latter stages of his career, having back up to Udogie may be sensible.
Enter, Miguel Gutierrez. The 22-year-old began his career within the Getafe youth system, before moving on to Real Madrid and progressing through their development squads.
He made just ten appearances for Madrid (Transfermarkt) before moving on to Girona in the summer of 2022.
Gutierrez has had a fantastic season with the La Liga high-fliers, registering one goal and five assists in all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).
Spurs are chasing Miguel Gutierrez
It’s no surprise then, that the young full-back has attracted interest from some of the top clubs in Europe, and now Spurs are adding their name to that list. That’s according to Spanish outlet, Relevo, who state Spurs are one of six clubs keen on Gutierrez.
Apparently, “Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham have expressed their interest” already, and there has been “continuous monitoring” from Manchester City, too.
However, it seems Real Madrid could hold the keys to any potential transfer, as they have “50% of the player’s rights” as part of the initial deal sending Gutierrez to Girona. Plus, Gutierrez himself has a “desire to play for Real Madrid,” which could prove crucial.
Spurs Web Opinion
If I were a gambling man, I would put money on Gutierrez joining either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the summer. Madrid are in a great position of power, given the player wants to join them. And then, of course, City have their partnership with Girona, so they could swoop pretty easily. I would not expect Spurs to get this deal done.
