Gazzetta dello Sport have now become the latest publication to talk up Tottenham’s interest in Albert Gudmundsson, revealing that the North London club’s scouts travelled to Genoa recently to watch the attacker in action.
Over the last couple of weeks, various Italian outlets have reported that the Lilywhites have their eye on Gudmundsson, who has 11 goals and three assists to his name across all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).
Last week, CalcioMercato suggested that the Lilywhites were actually leading the race for the Iceland international, who primarily operates as a number ten but can also play in either flank.
A couple of days ago, CM.it asserted that Spurs face competition from Napoli and Fiorentina for the 26-year-old, and the Lilywhites are willing to pay over €30m (£25.5m) to land the player.
Tottenham doing their homework on Gudmundsson
Gazzetta have now also credited Spurs with an interest in Gudmundsson, with the outlet stating that it would be ‘impossible’ for Genoa to keep hold of the player if he continues to play as well as he has done for the last few months.
They reveal that while Alberto Gilardino’s men resisted a €24m (£20.4m) offer from Fiorentina for the attacker in January, they might receive much bigger bids in the summer, with the player now ‘in the sights’ of Premier League sides, namely Spurs.
The report adds that Ange Postecoglou’s side have ‘sent their observers’ to Italy to watch Gudmundsson and they ‘have the money’ to make sure they ‘close the operation’ for the player.
Spurs Web Opinion
Based on the sheer number of reports in the Italian press about Spurs’ interest in Gudmundsson, it sounds like Fabio Paratici and co might have started laying the groundwork for a potential summer deal. However, the club are unlikely to finalise their list of summer targets until April at the earliest.
