West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse has named Rodrigo Bentancur as the most underrated Premier League midfielder, as he heaped praise on the Tottenham Hotspur man.
Since joining Tottenham in January of 2022, Rodrigo Bentancur has established himself as one of the most important members of the Spurs squad, and has earned praise for his dynamic displays, his composure, and his immense skill on the ball.
The Uruguayan has not had the easiest time of it over the last 12 months, though, with injuries limiting his playing time for the Lilywhites.
An eight month absence due to an ACL injury left Bentancur out of action until October 2023, but the midfielder only returned for four games before suffering another injury. He has been back for the last six games, though, and even bagged his first goal of the season against Manchester United last month.
Is Bentancur the most underrated Premier League midfielder?
Spurs fans are more than aware of how talented Bentancur is, but James Ward-Prowse believes the midfielder is now the most underrated in his position in the whole Premier League.
Speaking to the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Ward-Prowse said: “Underrated midfielder? Oh, he’s not featured that much but when I’ve seen him I really like him, Bentancur.
“Yeah, from the times I’ve watched him, what stands out is his energy, the way he can get about. He’s infectious the way he plays, he looks good on the eye, he makes good decisions. I’d say Bentancur.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I wouldn’t necessarily say Bentancur is the most underrated midfielder anymore. A year ago, yes, he wasn’t appreciated at all for his talents, and I do think many people are yet to fully recognise what he can do, but I do think some have started to realise just how good he is. Either way, he’s an incredible player, and we are very lucky to have him.
