Paul Robinson believes that Everton will look to make a big profit on rumoured Tottenham target James Garnet next summer and expects plenty of clubs to vie for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Garner, who broke into the Everton set-up last season, has seen his reputation blossom over the course of the campaign, having become a fixture in Sean Dyche’s midfield.
The former Manchester United man, who has showcased a great engine and impressive technical quality, is thought to have emerged as a target for several clubs, including Spurs.
It was reported by TEAMtalk earlier this month that Tottenham are looking at the youngster as an alternative for Conor Gallagher if the Chelsea man proves to be out of their reach.
Meanwhile, Football Insider suggested a little over a week ago that Spurs and Newcastle are set to battle it out for the Everton starlet, who is thought to be valued at £20m and £25m.
Could James Garner sell for as much as £30m?
Robinson expects a feeding frenzy for Garner’s signature in the summer, particularly if the Toffees fail to preserve their Premier League status.
The former Spurs goalkeeper told Football Insider: “Everton’s transfers are difficult to predict with their financial issues. But they’re going to be easy pickings if they’re in the Championship next season.
“Bigger teams will come in for their better players, including Garner. With their FFP issues, we know they’re going to have to toe the line.
“We know that amazing players like Garner are going to be sold, maybe Amadou Onana and Abdoulaye Doucoure too.
“Garner will be one that teams are looking at because he’s done really well in that midfield. They bought him for £15million and they could probably double that after his performances and get a huge profit.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I get the feeling that Gallagher still remains at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist with Postecoglou being a big fan of the Chelsea man. But Garner is an obvious alternative for the England star, being young, homegrown and possessing very similar attributes.
