Alasdair Gold has sung the praises of Tottenham’s academy striker Will Lankshear after the teenager clinched the record for the fastest ever hattrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham’s Under-21s booked their place in the quarterfinal of the Premier League Cup after thrashing Fleetwood Town 6-0 in the round of 16 stage on Saturday.
Lankshear was the star of the show, completing an 11-minute hattrick with goals in the 28th, 33rd and 39th minute, with all three goals being set up by Jamie Donley.
The 18-year-old striker has been on fire in front of goal for Wayne Burnett’s men this season, with 11 goals in 11 appearances in Premier League 2 this season (Transfermarkt).
Donley, who has struck up a great understanding with the centre-forward, told Football London earlier this week that his teammate is ready to make the step up to the senior side.
Will Lankshear breaks Tottenham stadium record
Gold has now waxed lyrical about Lankshear, drawing comparisons between the teenager and Tottenham’s record goalscorer, Harry Kane.
He said on The Gold & Guest talk Tottenham podcast about the striker: “He’s a very talented young player, he’s got a long way to go, but he’s got a little bit of the [Harry] Kane physique about him.
“He’s got a lovely touch, a lovely finish, I said in my match report the other day, his partnership with [Jamie] Donley reminded me a little bit of Kane and Son – like an academy version of it.
“Before it goes out of my head, I’ve just got to say, the Will Lankshear hat-trick was the fastest ever recorded at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham have some fabulous young strikers coming through at the moment, with Lankshear, Jude Sonnup-Bell, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett looking quite promising.
I do wonder if Postecoglou would decide to hand one of them a prominent first-team role next season rather than entering the market for a number nine.
