The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham will receive a fee from Everton if Dele Alli extends his current contract at Goodison Park, which runs out in the summer.
It has now been over a year since Dele last played competitively at Besiktas, with the midfielder’s loan spell at the club being cut short last season due to an injury to his rectus femoris muscle.
The former Tottenham man has since suffered multiple setbacks in his rehabilitation and The Athletic say that although he is now making progress, he is not expected to return before the end of the season (although that possibility has not been ruled out completely).
The report explains that according to the initial deal struck between Everton and Tottenham in 2022, the Merseyside club did not pay a fee to the North London side but it was agreed that a sum of £10m would be paid if the player makes 20 appearances.
Everton will owe Spurs money if Dele signs new deal
Dele has only made 13 appearances until now and with his current contract about to run out, it is revealed that Everton are open to handing the midfielder a new deal.
However, the publication points out that should the 27-year-old sign fresh terms, Sean Dyche’s men would owe Spurs a lump payment, according to the terms of the initial agreement.
The Athletic say that the two clubs are expected to meet soon to re-negotiate terms, with the aforementioned detail expected to be discussed.

While Levy and co might not be too keen to offer concessions to Everton, the current agreement is not ideal for Dele’s career as it disincentivises the Toffees from playing him or handing him a new contract.
There is still plenty of goodwill for the midfielder at Spurs and I am sure Tottenham will be a little compassionate and give up on some of the initial terms agreed.
