Speaking to the press today, Ange Postecoglou discussed his intentions and aims for the rest of the season, and suggested Tottenham Hotspur still have one eye on the Premier League title race.
Despite early-season predictions of mid-table obscurity for Ange Postecoglou‘s Spurs side, the Lilywhites are still right in the thick of it at the top of the Premier League table with 13 games to go.
Spurs are currently five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, but have a game in hand. Up next for Tottenham is the visit of Crystal Palace, with Postecoglou not only looking to bounce back after defeat against Wolves, but also needing his side to get back in their rhythm after two weeks without a game.
What does Postecoglou want from Spurs?
So, what is the end goal for Postecoglou, come May? In his latest chat with the press (via Football.London), the Spurs boss explained what he wants to see from his side in the next few months.
He said: “The idea is to try to keep progressing our football and finish the season strong and keep developing our players in our game style so that we can see where that takes us this year but more importantly sets us up for years to come.”
When asked about the race for fourth place, Postecoglou seemed to insist his side are still in the title race (via Dan Kilpatrick): “I’m not really sure, I haven’t read the competition rules but my understanding is that we’re not just battling for fourth place at this stage.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I love that Ange is not giving up on the title just yet. I know it’s highly unlikely now, but you never know, and aiming high is never a bad thing at all. I think it’s safe to say Spurs fans would be very happy with the top four this year, though.
