Speaking to the press after today’s crucial win over Crystal Palace, Ange Postecoglou revealed how happy he was with the players for their efforts, and insisted his side did exactly what was needed to win the game.
A goalless first half was followed by an eventful second 45 today at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs had to come from behind to grab the three points yet again.
Eberechi Eze netted a fine free-kick to give Crystal Palace the lead after on the hour mark, but the goal came very much against the run of play.
Spurs turned things around thanks to some brilliant work from Brennan Johnson, who played in Timo Werner for his first goal for the Lilywhites, before James Maddison lofted a ball in for Cristian Romero to nod home and give Spurs the lead after 80 minutes.
The game was killed off late on when Heung-min Son applied a lovely finish to make it 3-1 and seal all three points.
Spurs had to be patient to beat Palace
In his post-match press conference (via Football.London), Ange Postecoglou hailed his team’s persistence and patience in getting the all-important win.
He said: “Yeah I was [pleased with the team keeping pushing on]. I was pleased with the whole game. First half was difficult for us because when a team sits so deep and we had to initiate the play, we had to stay really patient and make sure you work the opposition and I felt we did that.
“We didn’t create a lot but we had a couple of great chances. You need that goal to break open a team that is going to sit so deep. I still felt like we were putting enough work into them that at some point we would be able to break them.
“Obviously we conceded which was disappointing because apart from the free-kick they didn’t really threaten us at all. You’re looking for a reaction and I thought the reaction was outstanding. They just had a real belief today in our processes and our football and I’m really pleased with the outcome.”

Even when we went behind, it was hard to see a way that we wouldn’t come back and get the win in this one. We were just too much for Palace, and eventually our quality showed.
