Eric Dier has admitted that he needed a change of scenery in January and revealed that he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Bayern Munich.
There were some eyebrows raised when Bayern secured Dier in January, given that the centre-back was struggling for game time at Tottenham even when the club were going through an injury crisis.
However, the 30-year-old’s showing so far has vindicated the Bundesliga giants’ decision as not only as the experienced defender get regular game time but he has consistently delivered solid performances, showing his leadership qualities at the back.
The England international got the nod to start for Bayern ahead of Kim Min-Jae in their Champions League clash against Lazio on Tuesday and he repaid Thomas Tuchel’s faith yet again, helping the side keep a clean sheet as they sealed progression to the quarterfinals.
Some reports from Germany have suggested over recent weeks that Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season might put Dier’s future at the Allianz Arena in doubt (Sport Bild).
Eric Dier needed a fresh start from Spurs
However, the former Tottenham man certainly has no regrets about the move, admitting that he has settled in well in Bavaria.
He told TNT Sports: “It feels great. The way everyone, the fans, the players, the club have received me has helped me a lot. It’s made it very easy for me to settle in. I’m just enjoying it, something new, a fresh start.
“It was something I needed individually and I am really enjoying it. A new country, new club and everything is going well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Dier’s impressive displays do not come as a surprise at all as the 30-year-old showed across multiple spells at Tottenham that he is a solid player when he is playing with confidence.
Eric is the ultimate professional and I am quite pleased that he has now found happiness again on the football pitch as I felt he was treated quite unfairly by the fan base in his final 12 months at Spurs.
