Tottenham and other English clubs might have an advantage in the race for Adrien Rabiot as the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) have now revealed that the midfielder has a soft spot for the Premier League.
Rabiot’s current deal at the Allianz Stadium runs out in June and it has been reported over recent weeks that several clubs have begun exploring the possibility of signing the Juventus star on a free transfer in the summer.
Last month, HITC claimed that Tottenham are one of the clubs following the Frenchman’s situation closely ahead of the summer, with the North London club said to have even reached out to the player’s entourage over a potential move.
This was also backed up subsequently by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), who said that the Lilywhites were one of several clubs ‘testing the waters’ for the player ahead of the summer.
Rabiot is keen on the Premier League
Gazzetta have not named Tottenham specifically in their latest update but they do provide a detail which might prove a big advantage for Ange Postecoglou’s men in the race for Rabiot.
They say that it is ‘no mystery’ that the former Paris Saint-Germain star has a ‘weakness for the Premier League’ and this could be his ‘only opportunity’ to get an ‘important contract’ in England since he will be a free agent in the summer.
The publication goes on to add that Juve have not given up hopes of tying Rabiot down to a new contract but should they fail to do so, they have lined up a few replacements, including Mikel Merin, Lewis Ferguson, Georgiy Sudakov and Lazar Samardzic.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can see why Tottenham and others would be quite tempted by the opportunity to sign a player of Rabiot’s experience and quality on a free transfer.
However, I would be quite surprised if Ange Postecoglou approved this transfer as the Frenchman does not seem like a great fit personality-wise for the kind of environment that the Aussie coach is trying to build at Hotspur Way.
