Lucas Bergvall has revealed that he has recovered fully from the fitness issues he had during the international break but admitted that he has not been too happy with some of the tackles he has been on the receiving end of lately.
There is plenty of excitement ahead of Bergvall’s impending arrival at Tottenham in the summer, with the midfielder continuing to look a cut above the rest in Swedish football.
It remains to be seen how quickly the 18-year-old will adapt to the pressures of playing in the Premier League but Spurs would want him to report for pre-season in prime fitness condition.
The youngster did have a bit of a scare during the international break as he came off with an injury in Sweden Under-21’s 2-0 win over North Macedonia.
Bergvall is on the receiving end of some bad tackles
However, Bergvall was able to shake that off quite quickly as he started for Djurgardens in their 4-1 win over Goteborg on Monday, even finding the back of the net with a header in the first half.
Speaking after the game, the midfielder told Aftonbladet about his fitness: “No, there was no doubt. I’ve had some problems from time to time after the blow, being a little swollen and sore. But they have solved it well.”
However, Tottenham’s newest addition remarked that he now feels he is being targetted by opposition players.
Fotbollskanalen quote him as saying: “There are many ugly tackles and many that are on the borderline. You have to learn not to go into every duel 100%. But that’s football, it’s tough, but it was definitely on the edge.”
When asked how he feels about it, considering he’ll be moving to Spurs in the summer, the teenager explained: “Of course it’s a football match and there will be tackles. But it’s on the verge of getting an injury and staying out. So, it’s not fun.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Now that Bergvall’s profile has gone up since his big move, he is going to find that more and more opposition players are going to leave one on him in an effort to get under his skin.
While the referees would need to protect the midfielder, learning to cope with this extra attention from his opponents is part of the 18-year-old’s development.
