Ange Postecoglou admits that Arsenal do very well at concentrating on the details of the game, while Tottenham are simply not at that level yet.

Despite being the better team for large parts of the first half against Arsenal this afternoon, Tottenham went into the break 3-0 down against their bitter North London rivals.

The Gunners were happy to soak up the Spurs pressure before hitting the Lilywhites on the break and building attacks on their own terms. This eventually led to two goals from set-pieces and a Bukayo Saka breakaway finish, effectively winning them the match within 35 minutes.

Tottenham fought back in the second half, capitalising on mistakes from David Raya and Declan Rice to pull two goals back and set up a nervy finish for the visitors.

Postecoglou reacts to North London Derby defeat

Unfortunately, the full-time whistle came before Tottenham’s illusive third goal and Postecoglou seemed frustrated in his post-match press conference, pointing to the gulf in class between the two sides.

He said (Football London): “Like I said, it’s disappointing. The outcome was disappointing. We wanted to win today for our supporters and for the club. We didn’t do that and whatever I think about the performance it’s still the outcome that sits on you.

“I thought our general football was good, was decent. We controlled the game for long periods for the most part but we know that. We know we’re a team that can do that.

It’s about now over the course of time getting from where we are to where we want to get to. To do that we’re still not absolutely laser-focused on the details, the small things that get you from where we are to become a team that contends. Credit to Arsenal, they’re there now. They’re a team that does deal with the details well and we don’t.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Arsenal are years further down the line with their project so it makes sense they are much more well-drilled on the finer points of the game. I just hope the Spurs fans are patient enough to give Postecoglou a similar amount of time to have a real go at this rebuild.
