Tottenham miss out on Manchester City midfielder despite player being ‘very much open’
Tottenham Hotspur need a number ten to replace James Maddison and cover for the recovering Dejan Kulusevski this season, but they have just missed out on another target.
It emerged last week that Tottenham launched an enquiry for Jack Grealish as soon as James Maddison suffered a serious injury.
We know that the Man City star has been on the North London club’s radar for a while, as Johan Lange held talks with Grealish’s representatives in January.
However, another Premier League club have won the race for the 29-year-old, who wants to get back playing regularly ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Jack Grealish had his eye on Champions League with Tottenham
TEAMtalk originally claimed that Grealish was happy to wait on other offers beyond Everton, with Tottenham and Aston Villa also circling over the experienced attacker.
The former Villa star wanted to give himself the best chance of being in England’s World Cup squad next summer, and did not want to drop below the elite level.
It was revealed that he was thus very much open to Tottenham, who would offer him a chance to showcase his skills at the Champions League level. The winger was thought to be particularly keen to move to London, but Spurs did not make an official offer.
While the North London club held discussions this week over a potential move for Grealish, his £300,000-a-week wages were seen as a potential sticking point.
Grealish agrees to join Everton on loan
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that, despite reports of Tottenham interest, Jack Grealish has now agreed to sign for Everton on loan for the 2025/26 season.
The journalist wrote: ‘Jack Grealish to Everton, here we go! Loan deal agreed with Man City and medical booked later today. Grealish said yes to EFC project and he’s now set to complete his move in next 24 hours.’
