Big-money Tottenham star told he ‘is just not good enough’ despite what Thomas Frank says
Gabby Agbonlahor has said that one Tottenham star, who Thomas Frank has praised in pre-season, is not good enough to play for a Champions League club.
While there has been a lot of consternation among Spurs fans about the lack of signings, Tottenham have also not been able to offload too many of their players this summer.
Some players who looked likely to leave earlier in the summer now appear as if they could be set to stay. One of those is Richarlison, who was linked with a return to Brazil last month.
However, Thomas Frank has described Richarlison as a ‘good striker’ and has hinted that the former Everton man is expected to stay.
Tottenham urged to cash in on Richarlison
Agbonlahor believes that Frank would be making a big mistake by keeping the former Everton man at N17.
The pundit insisted that Richarlison has already shown that he is not good enough for the highest level and insisted that Tottenham need a better striker to push Dominic Solanke.
When asked what Tottenham need in the final weeks of the transfer window, the former Aston Villa striker told talkSPORT: “They need a lot, because you need a striker in there who can push Solanke – even take his place – and help him get better. Because it’s not Richarlison, is it?
“Richarlison might as well come and work with us, mate. For me, he’s just not good enough – and that’s being truthful. Spurs fans will agree. Yeah, he might run around, shoulder barge someone, pop up with the odd goal… but he wasn’t at the level Spurs needed last season. And he’s definitely not at the level this squad wants to get to now.
“So, Richarlison’s got to be left. He’s not good enough. You need a top striker. Someone who can challenge Solanke. You’re playing Champions League football now.
“I do like Brennan Johnson – I think he’ll get better with more games off that right-hand side. Off the left, Tel didn’t look outstanding during his loan last season, but if he can improve, maybe. But you’re going into the big boy league now – the Champions League, man.”
A Spurs exit is still on the cards for Richarlison
While the speculation over the Brazilian has died down over recent weeks, an exit from Tottenham has not been ruled out for the player.
A couple of days ago, journalist Greame Bailey predicted that Richarlison could be offloaded by Spurs in the final days of the transfer window.
Bailey suggested that the 28-year-old could ask to leave Tottenham if he finds himself out of Frank’s starting eleven for the first couple of matches of the season.
