Ledley King reveals ‘interesting’ thing he has seen Thomas Frank do behind the scenes at Tottenham
Ledley King has shared his early impressions of Thomas Frank, offering an intriguing glimpse into how the new Tottenham manager is already leaving his mark on the club.
Thomas Frank has experienced a mixed start to life as Tottenham Hotspur manager, as the Dane’s pre-season campaign produced uneven results and was far from flawless.
Frank’s first competitive outing in charge of Tottenham also proved anything but straightforward, as the Dane orchestrated a near-masterclass for the opening eighty minutes, before a series of late changes saw Tottenham surrender their two-goal advantage.
There remains plenty for the 51-year-old to learn in his role, but Ledley King believes he has already made an encouraging start.
Ledley King impressed by Thomas Frank’s Tottenham start
Speaking to BetMGM, former Tottenham captain Ledley King discussed what he has observed from Frank since joining the Spurs pre-season tour, noting that the manager’s focus on unity extends beyond the playing squad.
“From what I have seen being on tour with the team, he is very impressive. Thomas wants to bring everyone together in the football club and that is not just the playing staff. He wants everyone, in whatever role they have, to feel comfortable and to feel in it together,” King told BetMGM.
The Tottenham legend then went on to describe how Frank interacts with his staff and players alike, highlighting moments both professional and light-hearted.
“I saw the way he interacted with his own staff on the plane – he was up and down watching clips with them. It was interesting to see how he is with his group and likewise with the players.
“He put his arm around several, had a laugh with others and played ping pong with some of them too. Speaking from an ex-player’s point of view, I know all of these things really matter.
“Having that relationship with your manager and doing that little bit extra is what it is all about. I have noticed what Thomas does away from the pitch and I think now more so than ever man management is crucial.
“I try to look at things in terms of how I would like to be a manager and I think a big part of it is being able to communicate with your team, have a laugh with your team and also be disciplined when you need to be.
“From what I have seen, he has embodied that this is a squad that is in it together to build something and be the best they can be. I think we are all very excited to see what Tottenham can achieve under him.”
Thomas Frank’s early impact and Spurs’ outlook
Indeed, Spurs fans have reasons to be optimistic heading into the new campaign, as Frank appears to possess the right balance in his approach to football.
His willingness to adjust tactics was evident against PSG, where he came close to masterminding an excellent result after altering his system before the clash.
He has also shown he is prepared to enforce discipline when required, as demonstrated by the disciplinary action taken against Yves Bissouma after the midfielder reported late for training.
