Tottenham fans may not like the controversial referee choice for Everton clash after April drama
Tottenham Hotspur supporters will not like what the Premier League have announced ahead of their trip to Everton this Sunday.
The critics of Thomas Frank’s style of play are growing ever louder as Spurs continue to struggle when it comes to creating chances.
The Dane desperately needs another win on Sunday as Tottenham are set to play in Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time.
While Spurs have a relegation-worthy home record in the Premier League this season, they have the joint-best away record in the division, and the Danish coach will be hoping that continues.
Tottenham will not like the man officiating the Everton clash
It has now been confirmed by the Premier League that Craig Pawson will be officiating Tottenham’s clash at Merseyside.
This may not please a lot of Spurs fans as they will remember that Pawson was the man who refereed their 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last term, where he did something very controversial.
He took six whole minutes to determine whether a goal from Pape Sarr should have stood, before finally ruling it out, deciding that Tottenham midfielder’s challenge in the build-up was a foul.
The decision created a major stir, with Spurs legend Graham Roberts even calling for Pawson to be suspended for that decision via his X account at the time.
Roberts wrote: “The PGMOL should suspend the referee Craig Paulson and whoever the referee was in VAR they are ruining the game I think both disallowed goals should have been given.”
For the first time since that incident, Pawson will be officiating a Tottenham game again, while assistants will be Lee Betts and Mat Wilkes.
The fourth official will be Tony Harrington, while the VAR and the assistant VAR will be Stuart Attwell and Constantine Hatzidakis, respectively.
Spurs are not the favourites to beat Everton
According to Opta’s Supercomputer, the most likely result on Sunday is for Everton to emerge with three points.
The algorithm gives David Moyes’ men a 41.1 per cent chance of winning and the Lilywhites only a 32.2 per cent chance of coming out on top.
However, Tottenham’s best performances this season have come away from home, and having won at the Etihad, Frank’s men can believe they can do the same at Merseyside.
