Tottenham insist no Thomas Frank fallout despite lack of minutes for midfield star
Journalist Graeme Bailey has reacted to the rumours doing the rounds on social media about one Tottenham star after Thomas Frank’s repeated refusal to pick him in the starting eleven.
Right from the start of the season, many have questioned whether the Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha pairing in midfield is the right one, suggesting it leaves the Lilywhites short of creativity.
However, Thomas Frank has continued starting the pair together, and the Tottenham boss has said that he is happy with the balance of his midfield.
Many Spurs fans were fuming when they saw Pape Sarr being left out against Monaco, with many scratching their heads as to why the Senegalese star is not starting.
What is the relationship between Thomas Frank and Pape Sarr at Tottenham?
The 23-year-old’s repeated non-selection has left many wondering if there has been a falling out between him and the Spurs boss.
However, TBR Football have now dismissed those rumours, revealing that the midfielder was one of the first to impress Frank when he arrived at Tottenham.
The outlet also spoke to journalist Graeme Bailey, who said about the situation: “Tottenham insist there are no issues with Sarr, he is part of the squad – a big part. Frank is still assessing his options and how best to use them.
“We know (Joao) Palhinha and (Rodrigo) Bentancur are huge figures for him, but Frank has made it clear to the squad that they are exactly that – a squad – and Sarr is a clear part of that.”
Frank also tackled the Sarr question in his press conference on Friday, stating: “There is nothing wrong with him [Sarr]. He was a very good player for us in the first six games. We rested him as a precaution before but competition, other players have done well. He has impressed me a lot though.”
Sarr will miss a crucial period of the season for Spurs
Sarr has been praised repeatedly by pundits every time he has played this season, which is why some Tottenham fans are wondering about the logic behind leaving him out.
There is no question that the youngster is going to have a crucial part to play over the rest of the season, with Frank previously even stating that he has been very impressed by the former Metz man since taking over at N17.
However, Tottenham will have to make do without Sarr for a crucial phase of the season as the youngster will link up with Senegal at the AFCON this December.
The 23-year-old could miss as many as seven games for the Lilywhites if Senegal go all the way in the tournament.
