Manager would rather ‘sell the pitch’ than sell his star player to Tottenham Hotspur

0

Tottenham Hotspur will not like the latest news coming out of Brazil about a young forward, who they have made advances towards over recent weeks.

We have now known for nearly a month that Tottenham’s scouts are closely watching a young Brazilian starlet.

Vasco Da Gama winger Rayan is thought to be someone who has impressed Spurs this season, with the Lilywhites even allegedly exploring getting a work permit for the 19-year-old ahead of a potential January transfer.

Rayan has a release clause of €40m (£34.3m), but over recent days, there have been some murmurs in Brazil that the Tottenham target could be in line to get a new contract.

Vasco Da Gama director makes big admission about Tottenham target Rayan

Vasco’s director of football, Admar Lopes, has now confirmed that negotiations have indeed begun to tie the 19-year-old to a new deal at the club.

He revealed that conversations on a new deal for Rayan are now ‘advanced’ and asserted that it will see the value of the player’s release clause increase if signed.

When asked if a new contract is in the offing for the young Spurs target, Lopes told Globo Esporte: “The conversations are advanced and things are going well, both with the family and with the agents and the player. We are confident that, in the coming weeks or by the end of the year, we will be able to conclude this renewal. It is also the player’s wish.

“A renewal of a player with this impact is to increase everything. The financial terms, the duration of the contract and the release clause. All to protect Vasco da Gama.”

Vasco boss is desperate for Rayan to stay

The Brazilian club’s manager, Fernando Diniz, has made it clear that he does not want the club to sell the teenage forward under any circumstances. He suggested that Rayan is the most complete striker currently playing his trade in the Brasileiro Serie A.

When asked about the 19-year-old’s future, Diniz told ESPN: “When I arrived here, I told them (the Vasco hierarchy) that he was unsellable. Sell the pitch, sell the goalposts, but don’t sell Rayan. His potential is immense. He’s only at the beginning.

“Maybe he’s the most complete striker in Brazilian football, without a shadow of doubt. He can play wide, as a number nine, as a ten. He’s strong, explosive, left-footed, scores goals… He has everything you can imagine in a player. He’s very special.”
