Ashley Young expects much-maligned Tottenham star to live up to £52m price tag soon
Ashley Young is confident that one of Tottenham’s summer signings will produce the goods once he settles into his new environment.
Out of the seven signings that Tottenham made this summer, some have hit the ground running while others are still finding their feet.
It is widely accepted that Mohammed Kudus has been Spurs’ best player so far this season, with the Ghana international becoming the main man in attack since arriving from West Ham United.
Joao Palhinha has carried on from where he left off in his Fulham days, shielding the back four very well and making Tottenham very difficult to play through.
Ashley Young makes confident claim about Xavi Simons at Tottenham
The signing that many Spurs fans were most excited about was Xavi Simons, but he has not managed to hit the heights he did at RB Leipzig so far this season.
In fact, over recent weeks, Xavi has been slammed for his lack of creative output, but Ashley Young is convinced that it is only a matter of time before the 22-year-old starts putting his stamp on games.
The former Everton man said on Sky Sports (26/10/25 from 18:30) about the Netherlands international: “He’s come to the best league in the world. So, you know, it’s going to take time for him to settle in. But I think that once he gets to know the players more and plays more and more games, he can settle in fabulously well.
“He’s a fantastic player — everyone knows that. He’s got the know-how to produce that, and I think that’s what the manager is looking for. I suppose the problem, from a Tottenham point of view, is when you look at the touch map from the last game against Villa — his touches were everywhere bar in the penalty area.
“It feels like he just needs something to go his way, because he has shown some really good moments. But again, I think there are a lot of things going forward that they need to improve on.”
Thomas Frank was pleased with Xavi’s performance against Everton
The Dane decided to tweak his Spurs side, with Xavi starting on the left at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and Kudus playing centrally.
The 22-year-old only lasted 61 minutes and did not seem too happy to come off when he was replaced by Lucas Bergvall.
However, Frank has said that he was pleased with Xavi’s performance against Everton, praising him for the positions he took up, and claiming that all that is left is for things to click in the final third for the former RB Leipzig man.
