Tottenham are battling five clubs for 16-year-old who already has 11 Championship appearances
Tottenham Hotspur have just been warned that they will face some intense competition for a teenage winger, whose stock is growing very quickly.
It appears that Spurs are keeping a close eye on the young talents in the Championship, with reports widely indicating that Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is admired by the Lilywhites.
However, he is not the only talent in the second tier who is on the North London club’s radar, with a Leicester City starlet also thought to be admired by Thomas Frank’s side.
Last week, it emerged that Tottenham were battling the likes of Man United for Jeremy Monga, who has established himself as a fixture in the Foxes’ starting line-up this term.
Tottenham facing an intense transfer battle for Jeremy Monga
Despite being just 16 years of age, Monga has made 12 appearances for Leicester this season and has been one of the few bright sparks in what has been a poor campaign for the club so far.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed that Spurs have plenty of work to do to sign the England Under-19 international, claiming that all of the ‘big six’ clubs are after him.
O’Rourke told Football Insider: “I think it’ll be more than just Manchester United keeping tabs on Jeremy Monga. There is still doubt at Leicester that he could leave because he hasn’t signed a professional contract yet, and he can’t do that until he turns 17.
“If he doesn’t sign a pro deal, he can be lured away for a nominal compensation fee as well. It won’t just be Man United looking at him. City still remain interested in him as well. I’m sure you’ll have probably all the Premier League’s big six who would be interested in signing the England Youth International as well.”
Leicester have not given up Monga renewal hope
Even though the biggest clubs in the country are now circling over the teenager, O’Rourke has not ruled out the possibility of the youngster staying put at the King Power Stadium.
He explained that Marti Cifuentes’ men hold out hope that the midfielder can be persuaded to sign a professional contract with them.
O’Roruke added: “Leicester are hoping they can persuade him to stay by offering him, obviously, a quicker pathway to first-team football.
“He’s become a regular under Marti Cifuentes this season in the Foxes team as well. So they’ll be hoping that they can end this speculation by tying him down to a professional deal.”
